The Tyres of Champions

The weekend of 12 – 14 May marked a series of wins for Maxxis. Proving domination across a range of disciplines, the Maxxis Ultra4 Europe King of France event, The BTRDA Plains Rally, and the British Drift Championship saw Maxxis-sponsored competitors steal podium standings across the board.

In the off-road sector, Maxxis’ King of France event saw Wrex Racing, Gigglepin Racing, and Mark Dean steal the show in the legends class, racing on 37” standard spec Trepador tyres. Making their mark throughout the prologue, night stage, and both days of racing, Wrex Racing landslided to the victory; securing the Maxxis King of France title in the legends class. Hot on their heels, Allen Sharp and Alex Wilson – representing Gigglepin Racing – and Mark Dean followed behind in close pursuit, securing 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Further representation in the off-road sector saw N4 class racer, Pat Naylor, take on the BTRDA Plains Rally on R19 tyres. Showing total domination in his class, Naylor earned a win, having pushed both himself and his Mitsubishi Lancer EV09 on the abrasive grounds of the event track.

Some thousand miles away in on-road racing event, the British Drift Championships, Team Japspeed driver, Matt Carter skidded and span to his second successive BDC win, drifting on VR1 tyres.

From competition to road  – The VR1 competition tyre features a compound that reaches operating temperature quickly and provides excellent dry traction, while retaining good heat cycling properties. Its reinforced casing and sidewall design provides a ‘telepathic’ response for the ultimate driving experience. Its pattern design maximises dry performance, while minimising white-knuckle moments in wet weather. Due to the nature of the tread compound, these tyres require special care when storing near freezing temperatures. Although not available for purchase, the same design, technology and innovation goes into making Maxxis’ range of high performance passenger car tyres.
