MXGP R3 Report

The third round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocros Champioship took place at the famous Hawkstone Circuit.

As usual it was the DRT squad of Tommy Searle and Mel Pocock who took their Cosworth powered Kawsaki machines out at the beginning of the day and showed their speed, with pole position in their respective classes.

In Race 1 Tommy’s gate pick wouldn’t give him the start he would have hoped for, but keeping in the top 5 throughout the start of the race kept him in the runnings, working his way through the front runners to secure 2nd place.

For Race 2 the start was more in Tommy’s favour with a great holeshot, but during the race lost a few positions. Sitting around 4th, Tommy then made sure to secure another 2nd place finish to grab the silver position for the day.

In MX2, the returning Mel Pocock would see his 2nd race meeting start off great with an almost holeshot, until he slid out and ended up in last place. In true fighting spirit he worked his way through the pack to confirm 5th place.

Again in race 2 Pocock re-confirmed his status as the holeshot king as he and Martin Barr bashed bars throughout the beginning of the race. Eventually Mel would make a mistake and settle for 13th position.

James Cottrell and Reece Desoer continued to show their improvement with 13th and 18th in the first race, but sttruggled more so in the second race with 28th and 25th.

The team will now head back to Europe for the GP of Spain and France before crossing over to Ireland for the next round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.

Steve Dixon:“I am pleased with both riders considering Tommy’s crash last week and Mel’s on going recovery. I am looking forward to seeing how Mel improves over the next few races as it’s clear to see he has the speed he’s always shown.”
