Maxxis International ramps up BMX profile

Maxxis International is announcing the sponsorship of extreme sports personality and Flatland guru, Lee Musselwhite. The two times UK Flatland Champion and Guinness World Record holder for the highest number of no handed spins in under a minute will perform at a range of events throughout 2016 displaying the Maxxis brand on clothing and equipment and sporting the latest innovations in BMX tyres from Maxxis.

Lee, who recently planned an extreme sports-themed wedding which aired on BBC Three’s Don’t Tell the Bride earlier this month, has developed a reputation for pushing the boundaries and creating several signature moves. In addition to performing across the globe at a range of events, Lee will also be perfecting his new ‘limbless’ trick in anticipation of a new world record attempt, which, if successful, will see Lee cover a distance of 10 metres on his BMX bike without having his arms or legs on the bike.

Commenting on the announcement, Lee said he was looking forward to putting Maxxis tyres to the test. Lee comments: “It’s great to be sponsored by a brand like Maxxis. I can’t wait to have the tyres fitted and start playing about with my bike developing new tricks and seeing how the tyres improve my performance. My world record attempt later this year will be a real test of the tyres I’ll be riding on so it was crucial for me that I joined forces with a brand I could trust.”

The announcement of Lee Musselwhite’s sponsorship follows news that Maxxis will be sponsoring the Pure BMX team throughout the 2016 season and is part of a strategy to showcase the innovative and extensive BMX tyre range on offer to a captive audience. Maxxis International’s managing director, Derek McMartin, said: “Our range of BMX tyres are second to none and are really starting to get the attention of professionals and hobbyists alike. By aligning our brand with such an iconic, accomplished and pioneering sports-personality like Lee, we’re demonstrating our unwavering belief in our tyres’ performance. We’re looking forward to seeing what Lee has in store for 2016 and wish him all the best for his record attempt later in the year.”

Nine tyres are currently available in the Maxxis BMX range, including the DTH which was designed especially for the 2008 Beijing Games. For more information, please visit:  http://www.maxxis.co.uk.
