Maxxis sponsorship of the British Drift Championship will soon kick in again, with the first of the five round series being held at Lydden Hill in Kent in April. With the 2013 Championship just around the corner, Maxxis is preparing for what promises to be the most exciting season to date.
The British Drift Championship offers Maxxis the ideal platform to showcase its high performance drift tyres, with the MAZ1 Drift being used by two teams in 2013. These include the current BDC titleholders Team Japspeed, and 2012 individual Champion, Paul Smith.
All of the Ultra High Performance tyres in the MAZ1 range are road legal, and come with an aggressive unidirectional V-type tread design, high bead filler, and stiff shoulder blocks that deliver excellent cornering and handling stability, as well as an increased lifespan. An advanced silica compound also comes as standard, ensuring good wet and dry traction while lowering rolling resistance to give more miles to the gallon.
The variant being used for the 2013 Championship, the MAZ1 Drift, has additional features and benefits that make it perfect for the fierce pressure that comes with top flight competition. These include a specially formulated compound developed to grip the tarmac harder as the tyres heat up, resist disintegration under heavy use and produce much more smoke - which is of particular importance as Drift drivers are judged on, amongst other things, the amount of smoke billowing from their tyres. Other innovations include a solid centre rib, enlarged shoulder blocks, extra-large high-tensile rim flange protection, steel belts and spiral jointless nylon cap ply.
Maxxis is constantly working on the advanced technology in its tyres to ensure that they can perform to the highest standards technically possible, as UK Managing Director, Derek McMartin confirms: "We are proud to once again be the official partner of the British Drift Championship, and we are looking forward to contributing to some brilliant, nail biting performances this year. The 2013 Championship will not only be just as exhilarating as last year, but we are expecting that it is going to be even bigger and better.
"All the team at Maxxis are dedicated to keeping our tyres at the cutting edge of the market, and ensuring they stay at the forefront of quality and performance levels. We are constantly looking at ways in which to improve the technology that goes into our tyres, something we call Orange Engineering, and therefore give our drifting teams the outstanding performance and durability that they expect from Maxxis"
