British Championship 2016 R1 Report

The DRT squad were glad to be back on British soil in front of the home fans, and competing in the premiere MX1 class. A well prepared Cadders Hill circuit welcomed the team for the first round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship.

Coming back from Thailand the team were well prepared for the British Championship opener. Lots of fans had come out to see Tommy Searle back at a British Championship. TS100 didn’t disappoint, with an impressive 2 second pole position lead over current championship title holder Shaun Simpson.

Team Green riders Cottrell and Desoer showed promise in the MX2 class, both riders happy to be a part of the Team Green programme and the Monster DRT team. Part of the Team Green ethos is bringing in new talent to the family, as shown by the DRT with their recruitment of James Cottrell and Reece Desoer.

Unfortunately Mel Pocock wasn’t able to race in Lyng, after his shoulder injury in the USA. However, it’s great to see him back on a bike. Top 10 GP rider Vsevelod Brylyakov had put good work in training with the team in Holland, but due to unforeseen visa complications was unable to make round 1.

In the first MX2 race Cottrell came from around 8th moving up to 5th, with Desoer caught in first corner madness and a fast racing circuit it was difficult to move through the pack, but made his way to 18th. In race 2 Cottrell had a great start and was fighting for the top positions. Unfortunately a stone hit the engine case causing him to retire from the race. Desoer finished in 21st.

The MX1 class saw Tommy aboard the new Kawasaki DRT Cosworth KX450f, and for the first few laps Tommy was biting at the heel of red plate holder Shaun  Simpson, before passing and showing a master class for the rest of the race and bringing home the chequered flag. Tommy reminded people of his old prowess, but also a more refined and well rounded Tommy that impressed everyone.

In race 2 Tommy did the classic ‘perfect’ holeshot and went on to lead  the race, showing a great display of technical skill and speed, reminding people that TS100 is here to fight for both British and World Championship Title, with the DRT Team 100% behind him.
