Maxxis sponsored Team Japspeed has announced that Brett Castle will be joining it from 2013.  UK drifting legend and all-round nice guy Brett will be taking over the vacant driver’s seat in the infamous Japspeed Impreza and will be piloting it in this year’s Maxxis British Drift Championship.

Brett has been an integral part of drifting in the UK since 2001 and has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will undoubtedly be a force to reckon with during the upcoming season. He will be helped by the team’s use of Maxxis MAZ1Drift tyres as they have a specially formulated compound developed to grip tarmac harder as the tyres heat up, resist disintegration under heavy use, and produce more smoke.

The Team Japspeed Subaru has undergone a number of changes over the winter period in preparation for the 2013 season.  The car has had a hard life since its first introduction back in 2010 and some much-needed TLC was certainly required. A fresh 1JZ engine has been installed along with an all-new tubular front end to aid rigidity and ease of accessibility.

The team recently attended a pre-season test day at Lydden Hill in order to familiarise themselves with the cars after the winter break. Steering duties of the team’s Subaru and 2JZ powered Lexus alternated between Brett and Shane O’Sullivan, with this being Brett’s first time in a Japspeed car. He showed absolutely no difficulties getting to grips with the unique setups of both cars and despite the hard-wearing properties of the MAZ1 drifts, it wasn’t long before he set about depleting the team’s supply of Maxxis tyres.

With the 2013 drift season shaping up to be the most competitive one yet (and with the 2012 title to defend!) Team Japspeed believes that Brett’s experience and extraordinary talent will help to secure many podium finishes throughout the year.
