Rekon Race Tyre Test Results
If you’re looking for mountain bike or downhill cycling tyres and you’re not sure which tyres to choose, you can always look to tyre tests for the answer, and there are plenty of tyre tests involving the Rekon Race.
Pink Bike
PinkBike.com is a go-to source of information on parts and accessories for the cycle enthusiast, and they were not disappointed with the Rekon Race:
“The tyre felt noticeably fast. It seemed to hold its speed both uphill and certainly downhill. Braking, it was substantially easier than Maxxis' other XC tyres to break loose and slide into turns on top of the tread. Once I gained some confidence in it and leaned it over at speed and in off-camber terrain, I was impressed with how well it hooked up on the side knobs. I felt that the tyre was very predictable and easy to push in turns when on the edge without fear of breaking it free.
Maxxis has an incredibly comprehensive tire line with more choices than you'd want to count when you add all of the tyres coupled with their sizes, widths, casings, and compounds together. The Rekon Race fills a small but important spot in that line. Coupled with the appropriate front tyre in the right conditions, the Rekon Race is a great contender for the rider looking for a fast-rolling semi-slick XC tyre that can still handle corners and variable conditions without feeling totally sketchy and out of control.”

Single Track World
SingleTrackWorld.com reviewed the Rekon Race soon after it was released:
“To understand where this tyre will sit in the Maxxis XC range: the Ikon has the tallest knobs, the Aspen has a taller centre tread but similar side knobs to the Rekon Race. The Rekon Race has the lower centre tread height.
Hannah has had a very short ride on the new tyre, in some very dry and dusty conditions. She was surprised by just how much traction there was – quite something as Hannah is not used to either dust nor teeny tiny knobs on tyres. She’s managed to bag a tyre to bring home, so we’ll be able to check those weights and true tyre width very soon.”

Rekon Race Tyre Reviews
Sometimes the best reviews come from riders just like you. Take a look at our user reviews below.
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, August 2019:
“Excellent tire
Good grip
Excellent rolling resistance
Used both front and rear
Best for rear tire use
May lack of confidence when using front
Very comfortable
Easy to setup tubeless”
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, July 2019:
“I'm using this as an all-around rear race tire. It stays on the bike much of the summer (I'll swap back to my 650B+ tires after race season). Enough traction to use everywhere, roll pretty well. Overall, a better rear choice than the Ikon 2.35 (rolls better, still has good side knobs).”
