Lydden Hill Again - This time in Reverse

Maxxis-sponsored It’s a Drift Life headed south for the third time this season to Lydden Hill race circuit, ready to continue battle and secure some all-important points at Round 4 of the Maxxis British Drift Championship.

The first surprise of the weekend came when it was announced that for the first time ever Lydden Hill was run backwards.

During first practice semi pro drivers Ryan Cooper and Lewis Mitchell had to deal with the wet conditions once again. Running Lydden backwards for the first time ever meant any small mistakes consisted in you hitting the water barriers at over 50mph. Luckily for the team all drivers kept their foot in and put in fantastic qualifying runs in very tricky weather conditions. Whilst over in the Super Pro category, Christian experienced a few engine issues. Great team support, however, enabled him to push on and put in three great runs.

With Top 16 battles taking place on Sunday, the team were excited to hear the results. It was announced that Christian qualified in 12th at Super Pro level and again Ryan’s confidence soared after a personal best of 2nd place at qualifying in Semi Pro’s whereas Lewis missed out on this occasion.

On Sunday the battles started with all the Semi Pro drivers heading out first. Ryan went out first and with Ryan’s confidence sky high he took the first battle at full throttle and successfully won his first battle against Ryan Pothecary.

In the super pro category, Christian’s first battle was up against Matt Carter. The battles were so tight that they ran OMT twice followed by a sudden death. Christian was somewhat neater on the last two runs and was through to the Top 8.

With Top 16 battles out of the way, Ryan then took on even more drivers eventually coming 5th overall. This is an amazing result for Ryan and the Driftlife team giving us some well-earned points.

Christian’s Top 8 battle was against Steven Biagioni. Christian was so consistent and kept his cool even when his engine was starting to fail. But the hard work and awesome driving took Christian through to top 4.

Top 4 battle was against the awesome Viper powered S15 of David Waterworth. By this point Christian was really struggling to maintain power out of his RB25. David’s runs were impressive and Christian was finally knocked out.

Last battle of the day was against Phil Morrison in the DW86. Christian kept close to Phil and battled hard all the way till the end. Unfortunately on this occasion it just wasn’t good enough.

The weekend saw the Driftlife team take some well-deserved points and moves Christian and Ryan further up that table.

It was apparent throughout these awful weather conditions with serious amounts of standing water that the Maxxis MAZ1 drift tyre performed amazingly.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors, friends and families for their continued support throughout the season. We hope to see some of our fans at the next round of the Maxxis Tyres British Drift Championship at Silverstone on the 7th September.
