OVERSEAS: Top 4x4 Magazine Rates Maxxis Bighorn 10/10 in the Mud Under: on 03 June 2010

The Maxxis Bighorn MT-762 was judged to be the best tyre in the mud in a review conducted by a leading Australian 4x4 magazine.

Australian 4WD Action tested 11 tyres over five terrains to determine the best type of 'all round' tyre for 4x4 drivers.  The 265/75R16 Bighorn emerged in equal second place overall, gaining high scores in the sand, hill climb and swerve tests, and was especially impressive in the mud.

The reviewer reported "Mud is definitely what this tyre was made for, with no clogging evident. It easily drove the bog hole at low speed the first time, scoring it a perfect 10/10".

At the end of the test the Bighorn MT-762 was awarded Highly Recommended status after it finished in equal second place with a score of 9/10 in the on-road swerve test, gained 7/10 marks in the braking test and drove out of the sand ruts with ease to come in "at the top end of the [sand] test with an 8/10 score".  The Maxxis Bighorn was also voted equal second in the hill climb, where it scored an impressive 9/10 after successfully climbing about a third of the way up the hill on the first and second attempts and cresting it with just a small amount of wheel spin on the third run.

"We are delighted with the results of Australian 4WD Action magazine's tyre test.  The Bighorn's performances in the tough off-road terrain challenges speak for themselves and but for a low score in the in-cabin noise test, which came as no surprise given that the Bighorn is purpose-designed as an off-road tyre, it would very likely have come out top," says Maxxis UK managing director Derek McMartin.

Pointing out that the only way to get realistic and relevant results is to put a series of 4x4 tyres through their paces in this kind of extensive test, Australian 4WD Action magazine was impressed by the Maxxis Bighorns, concluding "No matter what we threw at these tyres, they just gripped".
