Tyre manufacturer Maxxis is back to winning ways
after sponsored rider Bryan Mackenzie of the Maxxis Henderson LPE
Kawasaki team clinched the British Masters Championship MX2
title.
At the penultimate round of the series at
Shropshire's Hawkstone Park circuit, Mackenzie started the day well
by setting the fastest time in qualifying. Unfortunately, a
crash on the second corner of the first race left him in last
place, but he stormed back up the field to finish in third. A
better start in the second moto enabled Bryan to pull out a useful
gap, but with two laps to go he made a mistake, handed the win to
Maxxis rival Steven Clarke of the Maxxis Amico Suzuki team.
Despite this set back, Mackenzie's second place finish gave him an
unassailable lead in the championship and was enough for him to
lift the title.
In the MX1 class Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki's
Gert Krestinov qualified second fastest while Bryan Mackenzie, also
competing in this class, qualified in third and then found himself
in some close battles with his team mate.
Krestinov took the early race lead in the
opening moto but was passed by Anderson and then had to hold off
Mackenzie for second place. The second race also saw the
Maxxis-sponsored riders battling Anderson and it was Gert who was
in second at the flag, finishing in second overall ahead of Bryan
who was delighted to post his second podium of the day.
On the podium at the Maxxis British
Motocross Championship
Immediately after his victory in the British Masters, Maxxis
Henderson LPE Kawasaki's Bryan Mackenzie headed for Duns in the
Scottish Borders - his home round of the Maxxis British Motocross
Championship - where he turned in another excellent performance to
secure two podium finishes.
In the opening MX2 class race Bryan gated well and worked his
way up to third to collect his first podium of the day. In
the second moto he made an excellent start, taking the lead on the
opening lap, but then technical problems forced him out with just
two laps to go. Race three saw Bryan make yet another great
start and having moved quickly into third place he maintained his
form to complete the race in second. The points tally from
these excellent results puts him in overall sixth place in the
series.
Dunham bags maiden victory
At round 5 of the AMCA MX1 British Championships at Little
Bowden, near Kettering, Maxxis Henderson LPE rider Lee Dunham not
only scooped his maiden win but, more importantly, left the
Leicestershire venue with a big lead in the Championship
race.
Qualifying second meant that Dunham had a good gate choice but
then an incident-packed opening moto saw him relegated to 19th
before he recovered well to finish in tenth. After making
flying starts in the next two races, Lee went on to finish second
in moto two and took control from gate to flag to win the final
moto of the day. This superb performance enabled him to claim
second overall in the series and an 83-point advantage going into
the next round.
