Maxxis takes to the ice to promote its range in Norway Under: Maxxis Sport on 12 August 2011

Tyre manufacturer Maxxis has teamed up with one of Norway's top ice hockey clubs to raise the profile of the brand and promote its range of PCR, van, SUV and motorcycle tyres.

The official Maxxis distributor in Norway, Gummi Centralen AS, has signed a two-year deal to sponsor the Frisk Asker Tigers.  The club competes in GET, Norway's premier ice hockey league, which it has won eight times.

The sponsorship will help to increase awareness of Maxxis in Norway, since ice hockey is the country's second-biggest spectator sport (after football) and attracts a huge following, with approximately 100,000 people tuning in to the televised games.

As part of the arrangement the Maxxis distributor enjoys exclusive broadcast rights with TV channel TV2 and there is high brand visibility at the Askerhallen arena, with banners around the stadium, pre-match on-ice presentations and branding on the club's official website and players' shirts.

As part of the VIP hospitality available some of the Frisk Asker Tigers players meet up with Maxxis guests before and after home games.  Gummi Centralen AS also reinforces the sponsorship deal on its website and in its marketing communications, including customer newsletters and the new winter price list.

Despite injuries to top players during the 2010-2011 season the Frisk Asker Tigers finished in a creditable seventh place and many of its promising younger players took advantage of the opportunity to compete at the highest level.  It is part of the club's strategy to develop local youngsters and turn them into future players for Norway's national team.

Next season Gummi Centralen AS is planning to maximise the sponsorship deal with further on-ice promotions at the Askerhallen arena plus tyre displays in the VIP hospitality suite, Maxxis cap giveaways and special product offers.

Maxxis has been supplying high quality tyres to both original equipment and aftermarket customers since 1967 and its product range includes tyres for automotive, light truck, motorcycle, ATV, bicycle, turf and industrial applications.  The company has operations in Asia, Europe and North America and its products are distributed in approximately 170 countries.
