Maxxis Supports Disabled Team in Unique Football Tournament Under: Maxxis Sport on 08 September 2011

The Liverpool FC Ability Counts football team created an excellent impression during the recent European disabled football tournament in Switzerland with a little bit of help from tyre manufacturer Maxxis.

An Official Sponsor of Liverpool Football Club, Maxxis supplied dual-branded T-shirts for the players, who were praised by Liechtenstein Prime Minister Dr. Klaus Tschutscher for being excellent role models during their week-long stay in Zurich.

LFC Ability Counts have competed in this unique European tournament six times and this year returned as defending champions.  Once again they made it through to the final of the competition, but were eventually beaten by FC Zurich.

"We like to help charities whenever possible and are proud to support LFC's Ability Counts programme," says Maxxis International UK's managing director Derek McMartin.

"The European disabled football tournament is a great way for people with disabilities to really benefit from playing the game, rather than just being spectators, as they learn to support one another, exchange information and share ideas with their counterparts in other countries."

The Ability Counts programme is part of Liverpool Football Club's Respect 4 All disability programme.  It gives people who are wheelchair users, visually impaired or physically disabled and those with severe learning difficulties not only the chance to play football, but also to compete in regional, national and European tournaments.
