Maxxis Sponsors Futuristic Dakar Rally Project
Under: Maxxis Sport on

Maxxis has signed up as the official tyre partner of Dutch race
and rally specialist Tim Coronel, who is competing in the 2012
Dakar Rally in an electric vehicle.
For the 10,000km race through Argentina, Chile and Peru, tyre
manufacturer Maxxis and Reedijk Banden Import, its exclusive
distributor in Benelux and France, will supply Coronel and his Pro
Dakar team with a specialist 4x4 tyre, the Maxxis Ceros 07.
The experienced Coronel has enjoyed success in the Dutch Touring
Car Championship, the Dutch Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and the Dutch
BMW 130i Cup and has already completed the Dakar Rally five times,
twice clinching victory in the solo category and twice winning the
lightweight (T3) class. On 15 January 2012 he is aiming to be
the first to cross the finish line in Lima in an electric McRae
buggy.
Coronel originally designed the single-seater
buggy with Pro Dakar and late rally supremoColin McRae. Work
on the 2012 model is already underway with students at the Delft
University of Technology led by physicist and former astronaut
Prof. Dr. Wubbo Ockels in charge of technical innovation. The
Pro Dakar team will provide technical support and carry out all
servicing work required during the event.
The Maxxis Ceros 07s - along with the engine and
batteries the team will use - have been fitted to the 2011 McRae
Buggy, enabling Coronel to gain valuable experience. He put
the tyres though a stern and hugely successful test during the Baja
Rally in the Aragon region of northern Spain, demonstrating that
the level of grip they deliver is ideally suited to desert
racing.
In the UK Maxxis 4x4 tyres are available through Stapleton's
Tyre Services. For further information on the range visit the
