The Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship
continues to attract a huge fan base around the world and is now
seen in over 502 million homes across the UK, Europe, the Asian
Sub-Continent, including India, Africa, the Far East, North and
South America and Australia and New Zealand.
Primetime coverage has been featured on the Sky Sports channels
for some time but, according to figures released by British
Eurosport, Australian TV network Fox Sports is also contracted to
show the British Motocross Championship programme and the
Maxxis-sponsored championship also features strongly in Motorsport
Mundial.
This show is broadcast weekly by Channel 5 and BT Vision in the
UK and Ireland and is also screened across networks in Europe,
Russia, the USA, Africa and Asia, targeting almost 113 million
homes.
ESPN broadcasts British motocross action in its weekly Planet
Speed show, which goes out to almost 230 million homes throughout
India, Asia, the Far East and South America, and it features in the
primetime Max Power programme, screened by the Star Sports network
plus Channel 22 in Uraguay, Saudi Arabia's KSA , Telesport in
Romania, Drive TV in Russia and Qatar's Al Dawri & Al Kass and
reaching an overall 149 million homes.
Last year PAR Honda's Brad Anderson won the MX1 Class of the
Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship and
Stephen Sword of KTM UK clinched victory in the MX2 Class, while
Martin Barr of the Maxxis-sponsored Relentless
Suzuki team finished in overall fourth in the MX2 Class,
riding an RM-Z250 on Maxxis SI tyres.
No doubt they will be looking to build on these achievements to
secure a share of the £96,000 prize fund which is on offer this
season, although they will have to get to grips with a new format,
which has been introduced to deliver maximum entertainment to fans.
For 2010 there will be three 20-minute races for both the MX1 and
MX2 classes at each round plus a change to qualifying - 15 minutes
of free practice will be followed by 15 minutes of timed practice
then 10 minutes of qualifying, when only the top 12 riders will be
allowed on track. The organisers have also brought in a new
privateer's award.
The 2010 Maxxis ACU British Motocross
Championship comprises eight action-packed rounds and
opens at Little Silver, Exeter, on February 28. It then travels
around the UK before the season comes to a close at Hawkstone Park,
Shropshire, on October 3.
Maxxis has been the title sponsor of the
British Motocross Championship since 2002.
