Maxxis on the podium in
fitting MX season finale
Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki rider Bryan Mackenzie scored the
first British Motocross Championship podium of his career at the
final round of the series (October 2), providing a fitting climax
to the 2011 season for championship and team sponsor Maxxis.
Having qualified in third in the MX2 class, Mackenzie made the
most of some good starts, settling quickly into a rhythm and
posting a second and two third place finishes. This netted
him second on the day and his first ever podium in the Maxxis
British Motocross Championship, while Bryan's commitment and
consistency throughout the eight rounds was rewarded with fourth
place in the series standings.
In the MX1 class Mackenzie's Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki team
mate Gert Krestinov put in a spirited ride, battling his way
through the field after a couple of poor starts. His set of
5-4-3 results put him in fourth on the day and fifth in the
championship at the season's close.
Meanwhile, Steven Clarke of the Maxxis Apico Suzuki team, who
was also participating in the MX2 class in the Maxxis British
Motocross Championship, put in another solid performance to post a
6-6-10 finish and end the day in sixth overall. Ultimately, Steven
finished in tenth place on the championship leader board out of a
field of some 51 competitors.
"Yet again the teams and riders competing in the Maxxis British
Motocross Championship have delighted motocross fans around the UK
with their skills and never say die attitude, and the Maxxis
Henderson LPE Kawasaki team has worked incredibly hard all season
long to wring every ounce of performance out of their Maxxis tyres,
so it was good to see them end the season on a high note," said
Maxxis International UK's managing director Derek McMartin.
"Bryan saved his best till last, and his well-deserved second
place at Hawkstone Park provided a fitting conclusion to the
championship for everyone involved with the team."
The Maxxis British Motocross Championship now takes its winter
break and the action recommences in March 2012.
Maxxis celebrates MX titles
Maxxis celebrated further motocross success when
Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki's Bryan Mackenzie clinched the MX2
title in the British Masters Championship and Lee Dunham emerged as
AMCA MX1 British Champion in his maiden season on a 450F
machine.
Mackenzie's second place finish at the penultimate round of the
British Masters in Shropshire gave him an unassailable lead in the
MX2 class and was enough for him to lift the title, while Stephen
Clarke's final round win for the Maxxis Apico Suzuki team saw him
end the season in overall fifth place. Mackenzie also
competed in MX1 alongside team mate Krestinov and closed out his
campaign with another podium to finish second overall.
The AMCA MX1 British Championship went down to the wire and
Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki's Lee Dunham showed real
determination at the final round in Cheshire as he clinched the
title from Clinton Barrs by a margin of just seven points.
Meanwhile, in Meijel, Holland, for the final round of the MX1
IMBA European Championship, Dunham found himself up against a
number of Dutch and Belgian sand specialists. Coping well
with the heavy, deep sand track, Lee put in another gritty
performance to round off a superb effort throughout his debut
season and come away with third overall in the series.
