Maxxis looks forward to exciting drift series finale

After its sponsored teams collected podiums and special
accolades at the Scottish round of this year's Maxxis British Drift
Championship and then wowed the 20,000 strong crowds at the TRAX
performance car show - one of the highlights of the drift calendar
- tyre manufacturer and title sponsor Maxxis is looking ahead to an
exciting season finale.
As the series heads to the Nissan factory in
Sunderland on September 24-25 Mark Luney in the Maxxis-sponsored
SATS Cosworth is currently lying in second place in the Super
Professional class and stands a good chance of clinching the title,
while the Team Japspeed drivers - also supported by Maxxis - will
be battling for third place.
"The SATS Cosworth and Team Japspeed cars have
undergone extensive development work throughout the season, so it's
great to see the teams getting the kind of results their hard work
deserves, and we're delighted that our MA-Z1 Drift tyre has played
its part in their success by proving ultra-reliable on a variety of
tracks and in all conditions," says Derek McMartin, managing
director of Maxxis International UK.
"It's been a really exciting season of top
quality drifting and I know our teams will be going all out to win
and bring the 2011 Maxxis British Drift Championship to a fitting
close."
For the special Super Pro class only event at
Silverstone (September 4), the drivers were joined by special
guests from Team Need for Speed. Frederic Aasabo and Darren
McNamara, who usually compete in Formula Drift, put on a superb
display and after some extremely close battles Frederic took
maximum points for the win.
Knockhill, the venue for round four of the
regular championship, is a firm favourite with competitors and
spectators alike thanks to the circuit's 100mph blind crest
entry. Maxxis came away celebrating a hat trick of awards,
after Mark Luney of SATS Cosworth and Team Japspeed's Shane Lynch
finished second and third respectively.
Maxxis sponsored drivers also scooped some
special awards: Team Japspeed has found the ideal set up for the
1JZ Subaru Impreza and Steve Biagioni seized the opportunity to go
into his first semi-final of 2011, picking up the 'Hard Charger'
award along the way, while he and team mates Shane Lynch and Paul
Smith were voted 'Team Battle Champions'.
The Nissan plant gives the Maxxis British Drift
Championship organisers the chance to create another bespoke track
that looks set to push the boundaries of circuit design, so drivers
and fans are looking ahead to an all-action season finale.
