Maxxis enjoys awards hat trick at Scottish drift event Under: Maxxis Sport on 01 September 2011

Tyre manufacturer Maxxis came away from the Scottish round of this year's Maxxis British Drift Championship (August 20-21) celebrating a hat trick of awards, after its sponsored drivers made it on to the podium and also scooped some special accolades.

Round four of the series was held at the Knockhill circuit, a firm favourite with competitorsand spectators alike thanks to its 100mph blind crest entry, and saw Team Japspeed and SATS Cosworth, both of which run the Maxxis MA-Z1 Drift tyre, finish second and third in the Super Pro class.

Team Japspeed's Steve Biagioni made it into his first semi-final of 2011 - unfortunately at the expense of team mate Paul Smith - where he was joined by another team mate, Shane Lynch, and SATS Cosworth's Mark Luney.

Following two years of development with the 1JZ Subaru Impreza involving multiple engine configurations, the team has now found the ideal set up, and although Steve was unable to progress past the final four this time around, his efforts were rewarded with the weekend's 'Hard Charger' award.

Shane also went out at this stage, but went on to beat Steve and take the final podium place, while Team Japspeed's trio of drivers emerged as 'Team Battle Champions'.  The final saw Maxxis-sponsored Mark Luney go head to head with Matt Carter, but owing to some uncharacteristic mistakes Mark had to settle for second on this occasion.

"SATS Cosworth and Team Japspeed put in a huge effort, with cars that have undergone extensive development work this season, so it's great to see them doing so well, and we're delighted that the MA-Z1 Drift tyre continues to prove ultra-reliable on a variety of tracks whatever the weather," says Derek McMartin, managing director of Maxxis International UK.

For the next round on September 4 - a Super Pro class event only - the Maxxis British Drift Championship returns to Silverstone alongside the TRAX performance car show, where the drivers will be joined by special guests from Team Need for Speed.
