Maxxis continues its advance in the global rankings Under: Maxxis News on 20 September 2011

A new report on the global tyre market reveals that Maxxis International is continuing its progress as one of the world's leading manufacturers and is now in a virtual tie for ninth place with Cooper.

According to the 2011 Global Tire Report - an annual statistical review published by Tire Business - Cheng Shin Rubber/Maxxis International and Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. both reported sales of $3.36 billion for 2010, representing a significant change in the top tier of tyre manufacturers.  Overall, the market was worth an estimated $152 billion, gaining 20% as it put back the value lost during the 2009 recession.

The report concedes that measuring the strength of the market in revenue terms may be slightly misleading because more than half of the gain in value can be attributed to tyre manufacturers putting up their prices in a bid to counteract the increased cost of raw materials.  Nevertheless, the figures reveal that Maxxis is continuing to make its presence felt, as sales by the ten biggest tyre manufacturers collectively topped $100 billion for the first time last year, an increase of 17% on 2009.

"We were delighted to join the ranks of the world's top ten tyre manufacturers last year and this latest Tire Business report makes for excellent and extremely encouraging reading, as it underlines that Maxxis has continued to progress over the past 12 months during what were, at times, very difficult trading conditions for our industry," says Maxxis International UK's managing director Derek McMartin.

"We are committed to developing our credentials as a Tier 1 supplier to the world's leading car producers and are currently building two new factories to support our increasing OE obligations and to meet growing domestic and export market demands."

Maxxis International was established in 1967 and has developed a strong brand with a comprehensive range that caters for automotive, light truck, motorcycle, ATV, bicycle, turf, trailer and industrial use.  The company distributes its products in approximately 170 countries and operates from bases in Asia, Europe and North America, including research and development centres in Taiwan, China, the USA and the Netherlands.
