Former Houston Rockets basketball star Yao Ming has been helping
to promote Cheer for the Earth, an initiative by tyre manufacturer
Maxxis which targets environmental protection through fuel
efficiency.
Since tyre pressure has a direct impact on overall fuel
consumption, Maxxis has been offering free pressure checks and tyre
inflation at around 1,000 stores throughout China to highlight how
correct tyre pressure is vital for fuel efficiency. During
the two-month campaign in July and August, more than 150,000
customers took advantage of the promotion, helping to reduce carbon
emissions by an estimated 61,965 tons.
Cheer for the Earth demonstrates how the action taken by individual
consumers is important in protecting the planet and is the latest
of Yao Ming's charitable efforts. His foundation, the Yao
Fund, has pledged to build 14 schools in China and also encourages
children's physical fitness through basketball.
Maxxis is committed to supporting and encouraging green driving
practices and sponsored a similar initiative in 2010
